Apart from Monopoly - at which he was never known to lose - the thing my pal Lennie enjoyed most was swimming. We would spend long summer afternoons in the River Avon practising our crawl or just floating on our backs nattering about things like what we would do when we grew up. I reckon Lenny could have become just about anything he wanted. Sad he never got the chance. Just before his thirteenth birthday they found he had terminal cancer. Even now, forty years on, I’ve never figured out how he always managed to win at Monopoly.
