The Big Bike
I hang on to my big sister Susie, tippy-toes only just reaching the pedals. She's running up and down the road, in a blistering sun keeping me in balance, practicing for the big moment of going solo. The motion of whizzing through the air on two wheels causes the hairs on my arms to lift and I feel the coolness on my skin. My long plaits flail about like spaniel ears and I'm terrified. I tell her to let go now; let go! But she's gone already and I'm flying.
